Student visit to NUDZ supported by the Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur (BTHA)
From October 21 to 25, Larissa Stocker, MSc student at the Chair of Chronobiology & Health, had the opportunity to visit the National Institute of Mental Health (NUDZ) in Prague as part of her thesis research. This research stay, funded by the Bayerisch-Tschechische Hochschulagentur (BTHA), provided her with an in-depth look at NUDZ’s current projects, which closely align with her own research. During the week, she explored various research methods, including fibroblast cell studies, pupil response analysis using a pupillometer, and the use of home EEGs to monitor brain activity. She also gained hands-on experience working in the “light sauna”, used for light therapy studies, and observed sleep lab trials employing EEG to track sleep-related brain activity.
The institute’s staff were very welcoming and open, engaging in insightful discussions, answering her questions, and sharing their research approaches. Outside of her time at the institute, Larissa also enjoyed the beautiful city of Prague. Overall, this visit was a great addition to her research experience, offering practical insights she can apply to her own work.
