From September 9 to 13, 2024, we welcomed colleagues from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, one of TUM’s international flagship partner universities , for a productive visit, supported by the TUM Global Incentive Fund . The visiting team included Dr. Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo , Dr. Esther Ohenewa , and Gabriel Kwaku Agbeshie.
The week was filled with lab visits, presentations, and discussions that focused on light exposure research within the MeLiDos project , and the intersection between circadian and ocular health.
Highlights from the viist:
September 9–11 : The team visited the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen. They took part in lab tours and discussions, with time spent preparing a new light exposure protocol within the MeLiDos project. September 12 : At TUM, Dr. Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo gave a talk titled "Nutrition for Eyes and Brain: The Role of Macular Pigment in Health" The presentation explored how macular pigment can impact eye and brain health. September 13 : The visit wrapped up at TUM’s Campus im Olympiapark with a tour of the living lab, led by Prof. Dr. Joachim Hermsdörfer , which provided an interesting look at how everyday activities are studied in a controlled environment.
Overall, the visit offered a chance to exchange knowledge and explore potential areas for future collaboration. We look forward to building on these connections in the coming months.
